This 1955 Willys M170 Frontline Ambulance Jeep is for sale on eBay as we speak. No bidding, though -- this is a buy-it-now sale. It'll set you back $35,000, plus shipping.
The M170 Ambulances were produced by Kaiser Jeep of Toledo, Ohio, in the '50s and '60s. Compared to a standard Jeep, they had 20 inches added to the wheelbase for transporting injured soldiers on stretchers. A larger fuel tank increased range to 300 miles, which allowed it to cover greater distances between the front line and medical facilities.
Just over 4,000 were produced. Standard accessories included hand tools like pliers and screwdrivers, jacks and spark plug wrenches. Other accessories on this Jeep include a .30 caliber machine gun (inert, unfortunately), three stretchers, medic light, ax, shovel and a fire extinguisher.
With a quick search around the Web, we found a handful of M170s for sale, but none were in this condition, and none have the vintage Red Cross canvas top.
According to the seller there isn't any bondo or body fill. Looking at the pictures, we believe him.
