2016 LA motor show preview

The motoring world heads to the West Coast of America next month; we round up the cars to look forward to

Before the 2016 LA motor show kicks off on the 14 November, we run through the key cars on course to make their debuts there.

More cars will be added to this list as information is released, so be sure to check back in the coming days and weeks.

Alfa Romeo Stelvio

Alfa Romeo’s mid-sized SUV has been spotted testing numouros times and even accidentally shown in a promotional video, but we’re still yet to meet it in production form.

LA presents the perfect opportunity for the new model’s launch, with sales likely to follow at the very start of next year. It could eventually come with the 503bhp engine of the hot Giulia Quadrifoglio.

Cadillac Escala

Cadillac’s striking Escala concept made its world debut at the Pebble Beach show in August, but LA will mark its first entry into a mainstream arena.

The four-door concept is built on the rear-wheel-drive platform of the CT6, but ditches that car’s saloon boot for a liftback design. It’s powered by a twin-turbocharged 4.2-litre V8.

Jaguar electric SUV

Jaguar’s first EV model could make its debut in LA in a near production-ready state. There’s no official word that it is headed to the US show, but talk of a late 2016 debut suggests this would be the perfect venue.

The model, which has been spotted in development form, looks on course to make production in 2018.

Jeep Compass

The 2017 Jeep Compass was revealed in Brazil last month but will be first presented to the public at the LA motor show.

As a sharp-looking rival to the Nissan Qashqai, it has the potential to send Jeep’s European sales surging. It’ll come in both two and four-wheel-drive forms.

Mini Countryman

Spy photos of next year’s Mini Countryman show what the new SUV model will look like, but we’re yet to learn when it’ll be officially revealed. It didn’t land in Paris, so the LA motor show is the next most likely date on the calendar.

Based on the same UKL1 architecture as the recently launched Clubman, the new Countryman is set to be considerably larger and more spacious than the current car, and it will be available with a hybrid powertrain.

Volkswagen e-Golf

A facelifted e-Golf, which was hinted at by VW boss Herbert Diess at the Paris motor show, looks on course to land in LA, offering a zero-emissions driving range of up to 300km (about 186 miles).

By comparison, the current e-Golf can travel up to 118 miles on a single charge, and costs from £31,680.
