2016 Hyundai Genesis G90 revealed in new renderings

Hyundai shows the first model that will wear the Genesis badge, due out by the end of the year
The 2016 Hyundai Genesis G90 has been previewed in the form of a pair of sketches ahead of a launch in the car’s native Korea later this year.
The range-topping G90 saloon, which will be called the EQ900 in Korea, will offer a high level of technology, according to the company, and is the first of several models to be launched under the newly standalone Genesis badge.
The new Genesis comes with a more striking look, including a larger grille than that used on the outgoing car, and sharp lines which run the full length of the body. The Genesis design department is now headed up by former Volkswagen Group designer Luc Donckerwolke, who recently joined the company.
There is no definite word yet on which engines the new G90 will be offered with, but it is expected to come with large petrol engines, as with the current Genesis, which uses a 3.8-litre petrol engine mated to an eight-speed automatic gearbox.
The G90 is set to be larger than the outgoing model, while a smaller G80 is set to replace the Genesis saloon on a like-for-like basis.
There is no word on whether the G90 will come to the UK or not and the range is primarily being developed for sale in Korea, the United States and China, “which will get all six models,” according to Hyundai Motor UK boss Tony Whitehorn.
“But the UK is more difficult because it is full of heritage," Whitehorn said. "The three German brands – Audi, BMW and Mercedes – and Jaguar Land Rover dominate. It’s quite a challenge.” Lexus has had some success as a new-entry luxury brand, he added, “but mainly in America”.
Other models set to join the Genesis range include a smaller G70, a crossover, SUV and a coupé.
