Mercedes-Benz Vision Tokyo concept previewed ahead of Tokyo motor show

Futuristic Mercedes-Benz concept car will showcase autonomous vehicle technology and is expected to feature a hydrogen fuel cell electric powertrain
Mercedes-Benz has released the first official design sketch of its Vision Tokyo concept car, which will make its debut at the Tokyo motor show this week.
Described as being "a vision for future generations" and "autonomous, luxurious and progressive", the concept appears to show how autonomous vehicle technology could be applied to future MPV models. The concept features traditional doors at the front, with a sliding rear door allowing access to the cabin, which is likely to offer seating for seven.
The sleek design of the concept echoes that of recent Mercedes-Benz concepts, including the futuristic F015 Luxury in Motion concept revealed at the Geneva motor show earlier this year. Given the short overhangs at either end of the model, it's likely that one of the concept's main features will be its large, luxurious cabin.
Like the F015, it's expected that the concept will eschew using traditional windows in favour of digital screens that can be configured by passengers to display bespoke content.
Mercedes has yet to reveal any official details regarding the Vision Tokyo's powertrain, but it could feature the same plug-in hydrogen fuel cell electric system as the F015. That powertrain, which features two electric motors with a combined output of 268bhp and 294lb ft, offers a range of up to 684 miles.
