We in America settle for just the stickers
Porsche and Italian vermouth brands go hand-in-hand, as we all know. To many the Martini & Rossi Distilleria Nazionale di Spirito di Vino isn't so much known for its fortified wine as it is enlivening the liveries of 917s, Moby Dicks and Race Racing Race Cars. To honor Porsche's return to Le Mans, the Martini livery is back in the game in glorious fashion—just like their revival on the Formula One circuit.
Two paths to glory await you: if you're in Europe, you can buy a Porsche Martini Edition. It will be limited to just 80 cars. We'll go ahead and assume that they've all already been sold. If you were fast enough to snap up one of the 80, by some miraculous grace of Ferry Himself, your Porsche 911 Carrera S Martini Racing Edition will come with Aerokit Cup bodywork, PDK transmission with the Sport Chrono package, navigation, the base Bose sound system (we'll assume it's to save weight over the excellent Burmester system), and electric sport seats in black leather. You can have it in any color, as long as it's white or black. Oh, and "Martini Racing Edition" badges will blanket the interior, exterior, and your firstborn's birth certificate—who, based on the MSRP, Porsche will gladly take in exchange.
Porsche's Martini Racing Edition pays heed to the greatest racing livery ever. (That, of course, is always up for debate.)
"Starting in June 2014," says Porsche, "the Porsche 911 Carrera S 'Martini Racing Edition' will launch in the European markets of Netherlands, Italy, Spain, Poland, Ukraine, Czech Republic, Cyprus, Finland and Great Britain. Starting in August 2014, the special edition will also be available in China, and from October 2014 in Japan and in Latin America."
What this verbose verbiage means: we Americans will not have to lose our children for the most exclusive Porsche yet. Because we simply won't get one.
But wait! Don't despair just yet! Because, dear Porsche purist, any modern human being can walk—nay, stroll—into a local friendly Porsche dealer and buy your very own Martini decal set, to be potentially installed by the dealer—and you'll be able to put it on everything from a 911 Turbo to a GT3 to a 996 Targa to a 924 Carrera GT. Maybe even an actual Carrera GT. We'd put some of those seminal red, white and blue stripes onto anything we have in the office. Even Converses.
Expect the Martini Racing Edition to cost a lot. In America, we'll be content with just the stickers.
