New top-spec Alfa Romeo Giulietta Quadrifoglio Verde to cost £28k

Alfa 4C engine finds its way into a hot new range-topper for the Giulietta range, which goes on sale in July alongside a new range-topping Mito

New top-spec versions of the Alfa Romeo Giulietta and Mito are badged Quadrifoglio Verde

Alfa Romeo's new top-spec Giulietta Quadrifoglio Verde will cost from £28,120 when it goes on sale in July. The car, which made its debut at the Geneva motor show earlier this year, gets the same potent turbocharged engine as the 4C sports car.

The turbocharged 1.7-litre four-cylinder direct-injection petrol engine, known as the 1750 Turbo Petrol, produces 237bhp and can crack 0-62mph in just 6.6sec.

The front wheels are driven through a six-speed dual-clutch automatic TCT gearbox, also taken from the 4C. The lightweight aluminium engine produces its peak power at 6000rpm, and puts out 258lb ft at 2100-4000rpm – 80 per cent of which is offered from 1800rpm.

An older, heavier version of the engine, known as 1750 TBi, is currently used in the 232bhp Giulietta Cloverleaf, the present range-topper for the Giulietta range which will be replaced when the new Quadrifoglio Verde version arrives.

Since its application in the 4C, the 1750 Turbo Petrol engine has been equipped with a new fuel intake to enhance the exhaust note, alongside specific intake and exhaust systems.

The gearbox can be in auto’ mode, or controlled via steering-wheel-mounted paddles by the driver. Different driving modes, where certain responses are sharpened, are also offered through Alfa’s DNA driving mode selector.

Other features of the new Ford Focus ST-rivalling hot hatch include large rear exhaust pipes, oversized 320mm Brembo brake discs, alloys of up to 18inches in diameter, and a bespoke bodykit. 

Inside, there are special sports seats, leather and Alcantara trim, new instruments, aluminium pedals, bespoke stitching, and a black roof. UK standard equipment includes front and rear parking sensors, tinted rear windows, and lowered sports suspension.

A special launch edition of the Giulietta Quadrifoglio Verde will be limited to 500 units - with just 100 coming to the UK - and comes with special carbonfibre exterior parts, including for the spoilers and air dams, and bespoke 18in alloys. It costs £30,280.

Alfa is also releasing a new Mito Quadrifoglio Verde, with the car’s 168bhp 1.4-litre MultiAir engine now hooked up to Alfa’s six-speed TCT dual-clutch automatic gearbox. 

The 0-62mph time drops by 0.2sec to 7.3sec over the previous manual-equipped car, and fuel economy is improved by 10 per cent and CO2 emissions cut 11 per cent to 124g/km as a result of the new gearbox. A subtle new look and an increase in standard equipment are also on offer in the revised Mito Quadrifoglio Verde.

Other changes to the Giulietta range include a new QV Line styling pack for models lower down the range. This brings the Quadrifoglio Verde’s styling to more humble Giuliettas.

The Mito line-up also gets the QV Line pack, while the less potent 133bhp version of the 1.4 MultiAir engine in the Mito is also now offered with the TCT gearbox. 

The new Mito Quadrifoglio Verde starts from £20,210 and will also go on sale in July. Both the Mito and Giulietta special editions will make their UK debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed later this month.
