Mitsubishi unveils computer game-only Concept XR-PHEV Evolution Vision Gran Turismo

This is the Mitsubishi Concept XR-PHEV Evolution Vision Gran Turismo, a high-performance plug-in hybrid concept that, unfortunately, only exists in the digital world of Gran Turismo 6.

Not that the Japanese manufacturer has cut corners. A collaboration between Mitsubishi’s design team, its Advanced Vehicle Research and Development Group, and its Aerodynamic Engineering Development Group, the concept was apparently developed “using the same process” normally reserved for real motorsport vehicles.

Based on the Mitsubishi Concept XR-PHEV shown at the 2013 Tokyo Motor Show, it features a progression of the brand’s ‘Athlete Form’ design language, with the front grille previewing next generation styling.

Power from the Plug-In Hybrid EV System reaches all four wheels via an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission, balanced out by a S-AWC vehicle dynamics control system designed to distribute the optimum output through each tyre. 

Expect blistering in-game performance as such, benefited by carbon fibre reinforced plastic bodywork that reduces weight and contributes to agility in equal measure. Cornering is likewise improved thanks to the downforce generated by aerodynamic front and rear diffusers.

Available exclusively in Gran Turismo 6, the Mitsubishi Concept XR-PHEV Evolution Vision Gran Turismo is being offered free for a limited time to anyone who completes a lap in the new Seasonal Event, but can also be bought in the ‘Cars’ section of the game.
