Chevrolet Corvette Z06 Convertible

Seventh-generation Corvette Z06 is confirmed as the most powerful production Chevrolet ever, with 650bhp and 881Nm of torque

The new Chevrolet Corvette Z06 – the Stingray’s supercharged big brother – will offer 650bhp and 881Nm of torque when it arrives in the UK in early 2015.
These official figures for the LT4 6.2-litre V8 engine see a reasonable increase on the early estimates announced to coincide with the sports car’s official reveal at the Detroit Motor Show in January.
It’s also significantly more power than the Corvette Stingray’s naturally aspirated 6.2-litre V8 LT1 engine on which the Z06’s unit is based, with the figures rising by 190bhp and 251Nm.
This is largely down to the addition of a supercharger for the LT4 engine – this sits in the V of the engine block, so it only increases engine height a couple of centimetres over the compact LT1 found in Chevrolet’s 2014 Stingray.
Additional features designed to generate the higher output are new rotocast aluminium cylinder heads, lightweight titanium intake valves, forged metal steel connecting rods and aluminium pistons, as well as stainless steel exhaust manifolds.
Official performance figures for both the coupe and convertible have yet to be revealed, but the Z06 should see off 0-62mph quicker than the Stingray’s time of 4.2 seconds, before maxing out above 200mph.
Although Chevrolet confirmed its withdrawal from European markets from 2016, iconic models such as the Corvette will continue being offered in the UK, with the Z06 expected to go on sale early next year in left-hand drive only ahead of Spring deliveries.
