It's almost a foregone conclusion that the 2015 Hyundai Sonata will sell well, given its predecessor's success as well as the fact that new model represents an improvement over the car that it replaces. The previous-generation Sonata has made huge gains in a segment once dominated by Japanese brands, thanks to a long list of standard features, capable engines, inoffensive styling and good interiors.
The 2015 model made its U.S. debut just a couple months ago at the New York auto show and will offer even more luxury features, such as a ventilated driver's seat, paddle shifters, and well as safety features in the form of forward collision warning, blind spot detection, rear cross traffic alert, and lane departure warning, in addition to seven airbags.
The latest iteration of Hyundai's Accord and Camry fighter starts at $21,960 for the base model, and at $29,385 for the Sport 2.0T turbo version, which represents a drop of $300 for the base model compared to the outgoing 2014 Sonata. Not a huge drop, but still noticeable -- though power drops slightly for the new model with the '15 Sonata producing 185 hp and 178 lb-ft of torque, compared to the outgoing Sonata's 190 hp. The turbocharged model drops in power as well, with 245 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque on tap compared to last year's 275-hp and 269 lb-ft, though we suspect that not too many buyers will be able to tell.
The 2015 Sonata is headed to dealerships right now, and buyers will have a choice of four trim levels: SE, Sport, Limited and 2.0T. The configurator is up and running, so if you're in the market for a Sonata or one of its competitors, you can pick out the options for your choice of trim level and price it out.
