Volkswagen has brought a total of four newly equipped emergency vehicles to RETTmobil 2014 expo in Fulda, Germany, which is Europe's largest emergency equipment trade show. Every year the event draws hundreds of exhibitors, including major automakers and coachbuilders, who bring their specialized medical, fire and police vehicles. Since these are German automakers we're talking about, the specialized vehicles are based on relatively unassuming everyday cars...and they're diesels.
This year Volkswagen brought a Touareg SUV outfitted as a paramedic vehicle, complete with an LED light bar by Pintsch Bamag, LED strobes built into the grille, two-way radio prewiring, and a siren and PA system in addition to medical vehicle livery. This particular Touareg features a 3.0-liter V6 TDI diesel engine good for 245 hp, and is designed to deliver doctors quickly to an accident scene rather than being outfitted to transport patients.

In addition to the Touareg, Volkswagen also brought a Passat station wagon outfitted for firefighter use, featuring a 2.0-liter four-cylinder TDI diesel engine making 177 hp coupled with a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox. Like the Touareg, this one has been given the works when it comes to lights and sirens, courtesy of Hella.

The third vehicle Volkswagen outfitted for RETTmobil is a Tiguan coupled with a 2.0-liter TDI engine, good for 138 hp. This one has been outfitted for firefighter use as well, and features a Hänsch light bar with a siren and PA system, prewiring for communications gear, and strobes built into the grille. Like the two vehicles above, this Tiguan features Volkswagen's 4Motion all-wheel drive system.
In addition to the three vehicles above, Volkswagen has also shown a Golf Variant fire command car, though images of that vehicle were not made available.
