The next-generation Audi Q7 SUV has been spotted undergoing testing at the Nürburgring.
This prototype was caught in a much less camouflaged form than previous test cars, meaning its larger front grille, redesigned light clusters and more angular shape are much more visible.
Reports suggest that the Q7, which is expected to be released in late 2014, is potentially up to 350kg lighter than the current model. The car is thought to use a variation of VW Group's MLB platform.
That same structure will additionally be used by the next Porsche Cayenne, Bentley Continental and also the forthcoming Bentley andLamborghini Urus SUVs, both set to be launched in 2016.
Engine options are likely to mirror the range of diesel units offered in thecurrent model. That means 3.0-litre and 4.2-litre units with outputs varying from 200bhp to 340bhp.
Reports suggest that a hybrid version of the Q7, badged Q7 e-tron, will also be offered. Audi's smaller Q5 SUV already has a hybrid version.
Prices are expected to start at around £45,000 and rise to some £65,000 for a top-specification model.
The new Q7 will go up against the new Range Rover, VW Touareg andMercedes-Benz GL-class.
