BMW adds more model variants and updates engines for the 2 Series, 4 Series and 5 Series ranges
BMW has announced a round of updates for various models in its range of cars.
Changes start with some mild mechanical tweaks to the BMW 5 Series saloon and estate models. Updates to the 518d and 520d variants include their 2.0-litre diesel engines now delivering 148bhp and 187bhp respectively, plus the eight-speed auto box being revised to boost efficiency. The 518d now boasts a claimed 65.7mpg and 114g/km CO2 emissions, while the 520d now returns 68.9mpg and emits 109g/km.
The BMW 2 Series range has also seen some changes with the addition of a new 228i model. It gets the same 2.0-litre turbo as the 220i, but with 60bhp more power, at 241bhp. It’s available to order now, priced from £28,255 – that’s £860 more than for the 220i. A four-wheel-drive M235i xDrive has also launched, but it won’t come to the UK.
Changes continue with the 4 Series convertible lineup, too. BMW will increase the number of engines available in the drop top from five to nine, by adding three additional diesel options – 425d, 430d and 435d xDrive, plus a new entry-level 182bhp 420i petrol model.
The revised eight-speed automatic gearbox is also now available in the 1 Series, 2 Series, 3 Series, 4 Series and 5 Series ranges.
