GMC introduced the 2015 Sierra All Terrain HD on Thursday with limited changes ahead of an expected on-sale date sometime this summer. A 6.0-liter V8 will continue to be the standard engine making 360 hp and 380 lb-ft of torque. The 6.6-liter diesel is optional. It makes 397 hp and 765 lb-ft of stump-pulling twist. A six-speed Hydramatic pairs with the gas engine, a six-speed Allison transmission pairs with the diesel. SLE and SLT trims remain, along the with the Z71 package that adds Rancho twin-tube shocks, hill descent control and an underbody skid plate.
New or upgraded features for 2015 include GM’s CornerStep rear bumper, EZ Lift and Lower tailgate, integrated cruise control, auto grade braking and new brake rotors that GM says will double the service life.
The Sierra HD comes with LED headlights, body-color or chrome bumpers, chrome mirror covers and body side moldings. A carbon-fiber interior theme sets the All Terrain apart from other HD models.
The All Terrain also gets 4G LTE connectivity and a standard built-in WiFi hotspot. Enhanced features include text messaging alerts for smartphones with Bluetooth and Siri Eyes Free for iPhone.
The 2015 Sierra gets a handful of safety features normally found on luxury sedans. Forward collision alert, lane departure warning, front and rear park assist and head-curtain and seat-mounted airbags are all standard on both 2500HD and 3500HD models.
The Sierra HD will compete with the Ford Super Duty and Ram heavy-duty trucks.
