Subaru BRZ price slashed by £2500

Rear-drive BRZ gets price cut to attempt to lift sales after improvement in pound/yen exchange rate

Subaru has cut £2500 off the price of a new BRZ sports car.
The move is officially down to an improvement in the exchange rate between the pound and Japanese yen, Subaru’s UK importer IM Group importing its models from Japan.
Autocar understands it is also a way to try and boost slow sales for the rear-drive sports car that lag far behind that its Toyota GT86sibling - which itself is selling in numbers far less than Toyota expected, the firm has admitted - and address the fact that many dealers were offering a similar discount anyway.
The price cut means that the BRZ now costs from £23,995 in base SE Lux form. The base GT86 model comes in at £25,110, according to Toyota’s April 2014 price list.
The entry-level BRZ comes with a six-speed manual gearbox hooked up to the 197bhp 2.0-litre four-cylinder boxer engine, with the base automatic version coming in at £25,495. The base GT86 auto comes in at £26,605.
The GT86 has just undergone a series of minor detail changes inside and out, along with some suspension revisions to improve the ride, handling and steering. Neither Toyota or Subaru could confirm if the BRZ will adopt similar changes in due course.
The BRZ is the latest in Subaru's line of models to benefit from a price cut in recent months. The XV had a £2300 price cut last July, and Subaru announced that the successor to the WRX STI will cost from £28,995 when it reaches UK showrooms next month, a £4000 reduction over its predesscor.
