Given the French and Chinese flags flying at its Beijing auto show stand, we’re guessing automaker PGO must be some kind of Franco-Sino mashup from hell. Now, PGO has been around for a little while, but this is the first time we’ve seen its bizarre modern-retro wares in person, and, oh boy, did they disappoint. Dubbed the Cevennes (the convertible) and Hemera (the coupe), this pair looks like Porsche 356s created by using a photocopier with a broken scan plate. And which possibly wasn’t even plugged in.

Underneath their doofy sheetmetal, the PGO Cevennes and Hemera actually have what appears to be decent hardware, including mid-mounted, 181-hp, turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder engines from the BMW Group. (So, the previous-generation Mini Cooper S engine.) A six-speed manual carries power to the rear wheels as standard, and PGO claims the roadster weighs just 2200 pounds. Still, we’d rather have a Porsche Speedster–esque kit car—after all, why do “fake” halfway?
