To celebrate 25 years of the Mazda MX-5, a new 25th Anniversary Edition is revealed at the New York show
Mazda is celebrating the MX-5’s 25th anniversary in more ways than one at the New York show. As well as a bare chassis for the all-new mk4 MX-5, it has revealed a 25th Anniversary Edition of the current car.
Based on the 158bhp 2.0-litre Roadster Coupe with its retractable hard top, its available with either a six-speed manual or an automatic gearbox, and in just one colour – Soul Red Metallic.
Unique design touches include a contrasting black roof, A-pillars and wing mirror caps, while on the inside there’s off-white leather seats embossed with a 25th Anniversary logo. Billstein dampers are fitted as standard, as are 17-inch ‘Dark Gunmetal’ alloy wheels.
Since the mk1 MX-5 was revealed at the 1989 Chicago Motor Show, the MX-5 has sold 940,000 units and counting, making it the world’s best-selling two-seater sports car by a significant margin.
Mazda is yet to confirm prices for the 25th Anniversary Edition, but expect it to cost around £23,000 with a manual gearbox, or another £600 with an auto.
